PRIOR TO DELIVERY

W
e help women to develop the intuition needed to birth naturally in their own way and in their own time. We do this by offering comprehensive prenatal care, informed choices, and ongoing education. Each prenatal visit is scheduled for a time frame of 45 minutes to an hour. Women are never rushed, instead they are encouraged to ask questions in regards to the pregnancy and what to expect at birth. Our laboratory and ultrasounds our done on sight and a thorough explanation of the results are reviewed. Your midwife will see you one time a month until you are 7 months. In the 8th month you will be seen every 2-3 weeks, and in the 9th month you will be seen 1 time weekly until you deliver your baby. We make every effort to ensure that the same midwife that provides your prenatal care, is readily available and on call for your delivery, and provides your ongoing post partum care. Midwives develop a one on one intimate relationship with expecting women and their families which supports a familiar and comfortable birth environment

CHILD BIRTH EDUCATION

E
ducation is a very important part of maintaining a healthy pregnancy. During your pregnancy you will be educated and informed on your progress, laboratory results, warning sings, comfort measures and expectations of labor and birth. Our child birth classes are offered as group sessions, individual classes or one day seminars. The child birth preparation classes focus on being active throughout labor by encouraging mobility. Women will learn true and false labor, the normal progression of labor, comfort measures, post delivery health, breastfeeding, infant care and child safety.

THE BIRTH ROOM

THE LABORING EXPERIENCE

A
ll Natural Birth Center offers a program with emphasis on choice, safety and quality care in a comfortable setting. We believe that a woman should have choice and control. Most women prefer to have prenatal care and deliver their babies where they have a choice of methods, birthing position, cultural and religious acceptance, care givers who listen and the ability to make ongoing decisions. You have the freedom to choose your place of birth and birth position. You have a choice of care givers who support your choices. Your family and those you love and care about are always welcome at your birth. It is your choice who is there. The choices you make should be on your knowledge of alternatives, your needs, desires, philosophy and experience.

Each birth experience at all natural birth center is a special delivery. It is an unrushed, fully anticipated process that takes place in a comfortable, safe and familiar environment. There are no routine procedures that take away from your dignity and control. Surrounded by those you love and fully prepared, you are supported in making the best use of you own abilities in labor and birth. Many comfort measure techniques such as massage, and hydrotherapy (deep tubs and showers), are an option for labor and birth. Modern technology is available to assist in the birth process. Throughout the labor your midwife monitors your blood pressure, temperature, contraction pattern, performs exams to assess your laboring progress and listens thoroughly to your baby's fetal heart tone pattern.

AFTER THE BABY

I
mmediately after the birth of your baby we will assist you in breastfeeding and bonding. We will also continue to monitor you and your baby's vital signs. A physical exam is performed on your baby and records are prepared for the pediatrician. Most babies will receive eye prophylaxis and Vitamin k injections at the birth center. Some women waive these procedures. The parents are advised to have the baby seen by a pediatrician within 2-3 days for the Florida required metabolic screening and hearing screening.

CONTINUITY OF CARE

Y
our midwife will continue to provide you with ongoing breast feeding support. A follow up visit at 2-3 days, at 2 weeks and again at 4-6 weeks. Women seeking family planning or other Women's health care needs may continue to see their midwife. (see women's health care)

HOME BIRTH

Because some women choose to have their baby in the comforts of their own home; All Natural Birth and Pregnancy care center offers this service to it’s clients. A midwife will bring all her birth supplies with her and clients are visited at 36 weeks for a home visit to confirm preparation for delivery. Women are monitored throughout labor , delivery , and the postpartum period the same way they would be monitored in the Birthing Center or at a Hospital. The midwife and birth team are present to monitor fetal heart tones, vital signs, and postpartum adaptation. The Midwife remains present after delivery to monitor the postpartum progress of both mother and baby. Breastfeeding and bonding support are offered to make sure bay and mom get off to a good start before the Midwife leaves. You can reach your midwife 24 hours a day if any concerns should arise. Most women will be seen in 24-48 hours after delivery and babies will see a pediatrician within 3 days. Water birth is also an option we offer home birthing clients. If you become interested in this option discus it with your midwife.

Note: Private Insurance both HMO’s and PPO’s as well as Medicaid cover the service of home birth with a midwife.

WATER BIRTH

W
ater birth is an option to all women who receive our services at the birth center. Our Home birth clients use a portable birth Jacuzzi. Water birth is a form of hydrotherapy. During labor most women like to sit in warm water. The water offers many benefits to the laboring women such as relaxation. Water lessens the pain of contractions by applying heat to the uterine muscles, and soothes the lower back. Birthing in the water is also a safe and soothing way for a baby to transition into the world.

HOSPITAL OPTIONS

T
his option is available to women who have to be collaboratively managed or who choose to deliver at a hospital . This service can be further discussed with a member of the birth center staff.
